Car repairs in Melbourne
Car repairs in Melbourne from Inhouse Mechanic are for jobs that can be finished where the car already is, on level ground, when the work is safe. A qualified motor mechanic comes to your home or workplace, looks at the vehicle, and explains what can be done there.
You describe the car and the fault. We call during business hours with a figure, or we tell you the job needs a workshop. Nothing is pulled apart until you have approved the quote.
Signs you might need this
- The car pulls up poorly, the brake pedal feels different, or you hear a scrape when you brake.
- A belt is noisy or cracked, or a hose is weeping.
- The temperature gauge is higher than usual, or you can see coolant where it should not be.
- A charging-system fault has already been explained, and you now want the repair quoted.
- A steering or suspension noise has started, and you want it looked at before a longer drive.
- A fluid level keeps dropping, and you want the visible leak found before parts are guessed.
- A repair has been recommended and you want a second look at your own driveway.
- The car can be worked on where it sits, and you want the visit at home or at work.
What we do
- You send the suburb, the year, make and model, and a plain description of the fault. Describe any leak or warning light. The form does not take file uploads.
- We call during business hours. If the job can be assessed on site, we give a figure for that visit. If it sounds like hoist or workshop work, we say that before we come.
- We arrive at the address you gave us and confirm we can work around the car safely.
- We inspect the area the fault points to, as far as that can be done with the car on its wheels. We tell you what we can see and what we cannot see without lifting it.
- If the repair can be finished on site, we quote the work and any parts before we start. You can say no.
- If you approve it, we carry out the work that is safe to do there, then show you what was done.
- If the job should not be finished in a driveway, we stop and explain the limit. You are not billed for a repair you did not approve.
What's included
The visit is an assessment first. Work that often can be done at a home or workplace, on level ground, includes brakes, belts, hoses and fluids, cooling-system repairs, charging-system repairs, and some suspension and steering components. That is a category of common jobs, not a promise that your exact repair is on the list.
The same type of job can be straightforward on one car and need a hoist on another. We confirm it against the car in front of us.
What we can do at your place, and what may need a workshop
We cannot do work that needs a hoist, a wheel-alignment rack or a press, or major internal engine or transmission repairs in a driveway. We will not work where slope, traffic or a cramped car park makes the job unsafe.
Some repairs that sound small still need the underside fully accessible. If we cannot see or reach the part safely, the honest answer is a workshop.
How the quote works
Tell us the car and the issue. There are no prices on this website. We call during business hours with a figure for the assessment, and for the repair when the fault is already clear enough to quote.
Hours are Monday to Friday 7:00am to 5:00pm, Saturday 8:00am to 2:00pm, and Sunday closed. We do not promise a same-day visit. The day depends on bookings, your suburb and parts.
No repair starts until you approve the quote. Estimates are non-binding. Goods and services come with guarantees under Australian Consumer Law. Sending the form is not approval to start.
What to have ready
- Year, make and model.

- Any warning lights, leaks, noises, or a recent invoice for the same fault.

- A phone number you can answer during business hours.
